What makes Dahlin especially valuable is that his fantasy production does not depend entirely on the power play. He recorded 52 even-strength points last season, setting a Buffalo franchise record for a defenseman. That gives his point production a much safer foundation than players who need elite special-teams results to maintain their fantasy ranking.

Why Rasmus Dahlin Can Remain an Elite Fantasy Hockey Defenseman
Dahlin’s progression over the past three seasons is difficult to ignore. He recorded 59 points in 81 games during 2023-24, followed that with 68 points in 73 games in 2024-25 and then climbed to 74 points in 77 appearances last season. His points-per-game rate has increased from 0.73 to 0.93 and then 0.96 during that stretch.
For this projection, I weighed Dahlin’s two most recent seasons more heavily than his 2023-24 results. I also accounted for his expected games played, secure role as Buffalo’s primary offensive defenseman, power-play deployment and the likelihood of slight regression from his 19-goal season.

The goal projection drops slightly because defensemen rarely repeat elevated scoring totals without some year-to-year fluctuation. However, I expect Dahlin’s assist total to rise as Buffalo’s young forwards gain experience and the Sabres become more comfortable creating offence through movement rather than relying on stationary point shots.
Fantasy Hockey Projection: 18 Goals, 58 Assists and 76 Points
Buffalo has several dangerous power-play options, including Tage Thompson, Josh Doan, Josh Norris and Jason Zucker. The exact combinations may change during training camp and throughout the season, but Dahlin will remain the player responsible for organizing the attack from the blue line.
The Sabres experimented with different power-play combinations during the 2026 playoffs, with Dahlin continuing to quarterback the top group alongside Thompson and Doan. Buffalo also had Norris and Zucker available for alternative units and different matchup configurations.
Thompson’s one-timer forces penalty killers to respect the shooting lane, while Doan provides another legitimate finishing option. Norris can work as a shooting or bumper threat, and Zucker brings the experience to create traffic and retrieve loose pucks. Dahlin’s patience, lateral movement and deceptive release allow him to manipulate penalty killers before finding an open teammate.
The biggest opportunity is improving on last season’s 22 power-play points. Dahlin produced 21 power-play points in 2024-25, so that area of his game has remained remarkably consistent. A jump into the 25-to-27 range would give him a realistic chance of reaching 80 total points.
From a fantasy hockey perspective, I would comfortably select Dahlin as one of the first three or four defensemen off the board. His combination of goals, assists, power-play production, shots, hits, blocked shots and heavy ice time gives him an outstanding statistical floor.
He is particularly valuable in category leagues because a quiet scoring night does not necessarily become an empty fantasy performance. Dahlin can still accumulate shots, blocks, hits and power-play opportunities while playing more than 24 minutes.
There is some risk attached to his demanding workload. Buffalo relies on him in every important situation, and missed games would make an 80-point season difficult. There is also no guarantee that his shooting percentage or even-strength production will remain at last season’s level.
Still, my personal assessment is that Dahlin has established a sustainable scoring level. His 74-point campaign was not driven solely by an unusual power-play spike. His record-setting even-strength production, improving supporting cast and continued offensive freedom make another top-five fantasy finish among defensemen a realistic expectation.
