My Josh Morrissey point projections for 2026-27 have the Winnipeg Jets defenseman producing 15 goals, 45 assists and 60 points over the NHL’s new 84-game schedule.
Morrissey is coming off a season that probably disappointed fantasy managers who had become accustomed to elite offensive production from Winnipeg’s No. 1 defenseman. He finished with 14 goals, 41 assists and 55 points in 77 games after topping 60 points in each of the previous three seasons. But there is an important number hidden inside that decline: Morrissey’s 2025-26 scoring rate projects to exactly 60 points over 84 games.
That is why I view Morrissey as more of a potential fantasy hockey value pick than a player in obvious decline. He still averaged a massive 24:43 per game last season, quarterbacks Winnipeg’s most dangerous power-play personnel and remains the Jets defenseman most likely to generate points alongside Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele and Gabriel Vilardi. The ceiling may no longer be the 76 points Morrissey produced during his spectacular 2022-23 breakout, but another 60-point season is absolutely attainable.
Josh Morrissey Fantasy Hockey Projection for 2026-27
The math behind my projection is unusually clean. Morrissey’s 55 points in 77 games equal 0.714 points per game. Multiply that rate by Winnipeg’s 84-game 2026-27 schedule and you arrive at exactly 60 points. I have divided those points into 15 goals and 45 assists, which is also very close to simply extending last year’s goal and assist rates over the larger schedule.
Can Josh Morrissey Return to 60 Points With the Winnipeg Jets?
I believe he can, primarily because nothing about Morrissey’s deployment suggests Winnipeg intends to reduce his offensive responsibilities. He averaged 24:43 last season and finished with 146 shots and 118 blocked shots despite missing five games. For fantasy managers playing in leagues that reward blocks and shots in addition to points, that workload provides a valuable floor even when his offense cools off.
His power-play production is the category I expect to improve. Morrissey recorded 16 power-play points last season after producing 22 in 2024-25. My projection has him rebounding to approximately 20.
Winnipeg still has the offensive personnel to make that happen. Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele and Gabriel Vilardi formed one of the NHL’s most productive five-on-five combinations last season, scoring 47 goals while together, the most of any forward line in the League. Morrissey should remain the quarterback behind that core. Cole Perfetti is also a logical candidate for a prominent power-play role, although the Jets experimented with different fifth players last season, including Alex Iafallo and Jonathan Toews, so I would not treat the exact PP1 configuration as locked in before training camp.
Why Morrissey’s 2025-26 Drop Does Not Scare Me
Morrissey’s point totals have moved in the wrong direction since his 76-point breakout, but context matters. He followed that career year with 69 points and then 62 before dropping to 55 last season. That looks concerning at first glance, but 55 points in 77 games is still high-end offensive production for an NHL defenseman.
My personal observation is that the market may now be correcting too aggressively. Fantasy managers who remember the 70-point version of Morrissey could view 55 as a major disappointment, while managers focused only on last year’s total may overlook the fact that his underlying opportunity barely changed.
That creates an appealing middle ground. I am not drafting Morrissey expecting him to become a 75-point defenseman again. I am drafting him expecting 55-to-65 points with significant minutes, power-play exposure, shots and blocks.
Jets coach Scott Arniel provided perhaps the simplest description of Morrissey’s importance after he returned from injury last March: “He’s a difference-maker when he’s out there.” Morrissey immediately produced a goal and an assist in that return and became the highest-scoring defenseman in Jets franchise history.
Last Year’s Josh Morrissey Projection Was Surprisingly Close
There is also an interesting update from last summer. NHL.com projected Morrissey for 60 points entering 2025-26. He ultimately finished five points short with 55, but he also played only 77 games. His actual scoring rate across the new 84-game schedule would have landed on exactly the original 60-point forecast.
That does not mean projections should simply be recycled from one season to the next, but it reinforces why 60 remains a reasonable target. Morrissey’s role has remained remarkably stable, and Winnipeg’s best scorers are still positioned to convert the chances he creates.
Josh Morrissey’s Fantasy Hockey Draft Value for 2026-27
NHL.com’s updated rankings provide another reason I like Morrissey as a potential value target. He is currently ranked 24th among fantasy defensemen and 147th overall. That places him well outside the premium tier occupied by Cale Makar, Quinn Hughes and Zach Werenski.
At that price, fantasy managers do not need Morrissey to rediscover his career-high form. If he gives you around 60 points, 20 power-play points, 150-plus shots and another 120 or so blocked shots, he can significantly outperform a draft position in the neighborhood of 147th overall.
I would target Morrissey as a strong No. 2 fantasy defenseman rather than paying for him as my unquestioned D1. His reasonable scoring floor sits around 52 points, my expected range is 57-to-62, and a highly productive Winnipeg power play could push him toward 65 or 66.
My official Josh Morrissey point projection for 2026-27 is 15 goals, 45 assists and 60 points. It is not the flashiest prediction on the draft board, but that is exactly why Morrissey could become one of the more useful defenseman values in fantasy hockey this season.
