Game Preview: Team Records, Leading Scorers & Injuries
Both teams enter tonight’s contest looking to bounce back from recent losses, but their seasons have taken different trajectories.
The Edmonton Oilers currently sit with a record of 19-14-6 for the 2025-26 season. They are coming off a tight 3-2 loss in the Battle of Alberta against the Calgary Flames on Saturday. Despite the setback, the Oilers have been relatively hot, going 6-3-1 in their last 10 games. The offense is once again powered by Connor McDavid, who leads the team with an incredible 68 points (24 goals, 44 assists) already this season. Leon Draisaitl is right behind him with 56 points. In net, the Oilers are dealing with a significant injury; starter Tristan Jarry is on the IR, so expect Calvin Pickard to get the start between the pipes tonight.
On the other side, the Winnipeg Jets are struggling to find their form. After winning the Presidents’ Trophy last season, they have stumbled to a 15-17-4 record and have lost five straight games. Their most recent heartbreak came Saturday against the Minnesota Wild, where they blew a late 3-2 lead to lose in overtime. The Jets will need big performances from their leaders, including Kyle Connor and veteran presence Jonathan Toews, to turn things around. Fortunately, star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck is back in the crease and will be crucial if Winnipeg hopes to slow down Edmonton’s power play.
Betting Odds & Score Prediction: Can Edmonton Cover?
As of this morning, the betting odds have the Edmonton Oilers as -130 favorites, while the Over/Under is set at 6.5 goals.
Personally, I like the Oilers in this spot. While Winnipeg is desperate and playing at home, their defensive lapses during this five-game losing streak are concerning, especially against a team with McDavid and Draisaitl. Edmonton’s power play is simply too dangerous to bet against when facing a struggling penalty kill. I think the Over 6.5 is also a solid play; both goaltenders (Pickard and a recently returned Hellebuyck) could give up a few, and the offensive firepower on both sides suggests a high-scoring affair.
I’m predicting a 5-3 victory for the Edmonton Oilers, covering the spread and hitting the over.
