Game Preview: Mammoth vs. Canadiens (2025-26 Season)
This matchup is set to be a thriller. The Montreal Canadiens (9-3-2, 20 points) are just holding onto one of the top spots in the East, while the Utah Mammoth (9-5-0, 18 points) are proving they are a legitimate playoff threat in the West.
The Canadiens are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday, a game where they salvaged a point but blew a third-period lead. The Habs are currently on a two-game skid (0-1-1) and will be desperate to get back in the win column at home. They are led by their dynamic duo of captain Nick Suzuki (19 points) and sniper Cole Caufield (16 points).
The Mammoth, meanwhile, are looking to bounce back from a 5-3 regulation loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday. Utah has been powered by its veteran leaders, with Nick Schmaltz (18 points) and Clayton Keller (14 points) leading the charge.
Both teams are dealing with significant injuries. The Canadiens are missing key players Patrik Laine (core muscle surgery) and defenseman Kaiden Guhle (lower body). The Mammoth are also feeling the sting, with defensemen Sean Durzi (shoulder) and forward Alexander Kerfoot (lower body) on the injured list.
Prediction and Betting Odds
This is a tough game to call. Both teams are playing well but are coming off losses and dealing with injuries. The betting odds have the line at Montreal -115 and the O/U at 5.5.
Personally, I feel this is a very evenly matched game. Utah has been impressive on the road, but Montreal is at home and has been slightly more consistent, grabbing points in 11 of their 14 games. The Canadiens’ offense with Suzuki, Caufield, and rookie Ivan Demidov is electric. I think the over/under of 5.5 is a bit low; I’m expecting a high-event game. I’ll lean toward the home team in a tight one. I predict the Canadiens take this one 4-3.
