Coleman fits the Tkachuk-era Senators mold perfectly: he’s gritty, he scores, and he has two Stanley Cup rings. He is the type of “glue guy” who drags teams into the fight when the going gets tough in April and May.

However, we need to look at this with a critical eye. The Senators are in a precarious position regarding assets. The Calgary Flames know what they have in Coleman. They aren’t going to give him away for a mid-tier prospect and a handshake. Sellers are currently setting sky-high prices because so few teams are officially “selling” this early in the 2025-26 season.
Here is my personal insight: The window with Brady Tkachuk, Thomas Chabot, and Drake Batherson is wide open right now. Waiting until the March 6 trade deadline might save some assets, but can the Ottawa Senators afford to tread water until then? Staios needs to decide if he’s willing to overpay to maximize this specific season. If he truly believes this group can make a run, he has to find a way to make the math work, even if it hurts the prospect pool.
